Abduction, violence, years spent in the bunker only 90 kilometers from their home. To survive, the victims of the maniac Viktor Mokhov showed incredible power of the spirit. One of them, Katya Martynova, shared her eyes on the past in the book “Confession of the Prisoner of the Dungeon”.
In 2000, Viktor Mokhov stole 14-year-old Ekaterina Martynova and 17-year-old Elena Samokhin and held them in a bunker, which he specially equipped on his own site. Girls were in prison 1312 days. The criminal raped and beat them, mocked them physically and morally.
To rescue Katya and Lena managed thanks to a student Alena, who rented an apartment from Mokhov. The maniac came to visit her with Catherine, and after their visit, the girl found a note with a request for help. So the police became known about the location of the captives. During the time spent in the bunker, Elena gave birth to two children, by the time of salvation from captivity, she was in the eighth month of pregnancy.
March 3 Victor Mokhov leaves prison after 17 years of imprisonment. By coincidence, Mokhov’s liberation coincided with the release of the book “Confession of the Prisoner of the Dungeon” (AST, 2021) – the autobiographical story Katya Martynova. On her pages, the girl restores the picture of what happened, starting with the abduction and until the happy liberation after three and a half years.
How girls lived all this time? Why did they not try to escape? How Mokhov explained his monstrous actions? Katya openly answers the most difficult questions that arise when first acquaintance with a terrible story.
One of the reasons for the publication of confession is Katya’s desire to protect those who survived sexual violence https://www.voll-im-flow.de/2023/08/31/play2x-igra-2023-jeto-krash-igra-novogo-pokolenija/ from Victimblating. To interrupt the vicious practice of shifting guilt for violence for the victim, so that it never occurred to anyone else to say: «It is guilty».
“I wrote this book, probably for all women who had to experience violence in my life. No matter what kind of family is family. I left these trials with the main lesson – never put up with circumstances. Do not let your mind die. Only the active brain can in a series of even the most insignificant events find what will open the doors of the dungeon «.
We publish an excerpt from the book.
Fragment of the head of «2001: underground existence»
Escape plans and the obsessive idea of liberation did not leave us. For example, we planned to overcome vegetable oil in a pan and, when our tormentor comes, spray boiling liquid in his face, and then to heat it with this vessel on the head. We even put a frying pan on electric tiles several times, having heard its steps upstairs, but we did not dare to fulfill the plan.
There was a high probability of the failure of our plan: it is unlikely that a healthy and strong man will lose consciousness from a blow (and what power could be that blow, given our physical condition?) though hot item. Rather, he will only get angry, and therefore, he will punish us tightly.
Once we came up with a way to pick a hole in the wall near the hatch. Then you could get there with your hand and open the bolts on the doors. It was a crazy idea, firstly, because from improvised means we had only a small knife, and secondly, the thickness of the walls exceeded thirty centimeters. How much would we have to pick that wall, which, as it later became known, in its depths completely hid the iron grill.
Mokhov only laughed disgustingly, looking at our ridiculous attempts to escape. He knew that his bunker could be left only in one way-through all the doors open and leading upstairs … there was no chance of getting free, there was a happy case to wait ..
